Hailing from Neenah, Wisconsin, Bedrock Coffee Roasters has been a single-origin roaster since 2018. Originating in Appleton and making the shift to Neenah in 2020, Bedrock has grown into a polity staple. They’re not only in it for their love of roasting good coffee, they’re moreover defended to giving when to their polity and to charity–sponsoring the organization Operation Underground Railroad, which exists to rescue children from sex trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Out of 7 variegated single-origin offerings, we selected to try their Peru Cajamarca due to it’s potential versatility and intriguing tasting notes. They do offer the Obsidian Espresso from the Cauca region of Colombia which was of interest to us as well. That’ll be our next pick!
This washed-processed coffee sounded like it had potential to be a unconfined standalone coffee or pulled as espresso. Let’s find out if we were right!
So far, so good. The beans smell fresh and fragrant!
We pulled it as a shot of espresso first. The unexceptionable pomegranate tasting note was the highlight here. It was smooth and robust, with a slight venom and no stormy aftertaste.
Mini Latte – This was our favorite drink of the trial, and we thought up two ways to make this. The tasting notes of honey and caramel were a perfect mix with a little honey sweetener. To make this, we took a 4oz mini goblet and filled it with 1 oz espresso, a drizzle of honey, and 3 oz whole milk. Topped with a little foam and straw, we had a party-ready espresso drink! It’s worth noting that you can hands transform this into an sultana drink by substituting 1 oz of milk with 1 oz of Kahlua.
Black Coffee – This coffee is solid! The tasting notes are well-spoken and there’s no weirdness or bitterness to it. This confirms it–the Peru Cajamarca is a versatile coffee that can be pulled as a shot or spirituous straight. And it’s tasty!
